What is Rolfing®?

Great question!

Founded by Dr. Ida P. Rolf, Rolfing Structural Integration (SI) is a lengthening of the Fascial system of the body, to relieve the body of chronic pain. Fascia is the most continuous system in the body - the connective tissue wrapping the space between more commonly known parts of the body - skin, muscle, bone, ligaments, tendons, etc.

The beauty of working with Fascia is that by affecting one part of the body, a Rolfer can affect all parts of the body because everything is connected.

Chronic pain is caused by restriction in the fascia.

Rolfing relieves chronic pain by freeing fascia from restriction. By aligning the body in gravity without restriction, the body is allowed to achieve health.

Rolfing relieves pain by not only working with the problem at hand caused by restriction, but by making it so that problem doesn’t reoccur by aligning systems as a whole, freeing the body of its restrictions. If the body is aligned in gravity, it can work free of restriction and an unrestricted body, achieves health.

ROLFING® 10 SERIES

The hallmark of Rolfing is centered around what is known as the 10 Series. Generally one session a week for 10 weeks, or as necessary for the best benefits of you and needs. Each session is centered around specific goals and territories of the body to achieve alignment and Wholism in gravity.

SESSIONS 1-3

The first 3 sessions are superficial sessions to open the body up.
Session 1 is about establishing breathe in the torso and beginning to connect it thru the body. To affect change in the body, it must be able breathe fully.
Session 2 connects the torso to the feet, creates movement thru the legs, and gets the body grounded.
Session 3 is about establishing the lateral line of the body, connecting the joints of the body from shoulders to toes.

SESSIONS 4-7

These are the Core Sessions. They establish connection of the superficial layers to the body as a whole.
Session 4 establishes the midline of the body, from the feet to the pelvic girdle.
Session 5 establishes the connection of the pelvic girdle to the diaphragm and the torso.
Session 6 is working down the line of the back to create 3-dimensional movement of the spine, connecting it from head to toe.
Session 7 is all about ‘putting the head on’, by bringing connection of the cranium and neck to the torso and letting it filter thru.

SESSIONS 8-10

The final sessions of the 10 series are about integration and closure. Completes the work by bringing it all together. Sessions 8 and 9 will be split over the lower body and upper body based on the needs of the client to fully integrate the work. Session 10 puts the finishing touches on to put a fine veneer to polish off the work.
